Photography Exhibition in Malaga, Spain

De Lo Humano – Fotografia Internacional 1900-1950. This is the name of the exhibition on display in Málaga’s Picasso Museum, until May 25. Curated by Ute Eskildsen, De Lo Humano follows a long line of humanistic exhibitions inspired by the celebrated Family of Man (commissioned by Edward Steichen in 1955, at Museum of Modern Art, New York). Eskildsen gathered 111 images, mostly portraits and self-portraits, from 68 photographers. The aim of De Lo Humano is to provide a journey through Photography’s representation of human being, an overview of men’s fascination with Man during the first half the XX century, after Kodak’s “democratization” of the medium. The core theme is centered on the human image, but the exhibition gathers rather different approaches to the subject: the pictorialism of Steichen and Alvin Langdon Coburn, Lászlo Moholy-Nagy and Man Ray’s experimentalism, the lively streets photographed by Henri-Cartier Bresson and Robert Frank, August Sander’s portraits of German society. André Kertesz, Alexander Rodtchenko, Imogen Cunningham, Cecil Beaton, Brassaï and many others also contributed to De Lo Humano – Fotografia Internacional 1900-1950.
